Spend a Weekend in the Old West with Historian Drew Gomber
Friday, October 31 - Sunday, November 1, 2015
Come explore Lincoln County War sites and discuss Billy the Kid and other outlaws and lawmen with historian and storyteller Drew Gomber. See where New Mexico's most famous gunfighters became legends.
Package includes a catered welcome dinner, and a two-night stay at the historic Wortley Hotel in Lincoln (hotel stay includes a full breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday). Also included is transportation to the historic sites, admission to the state-maintained historic buildings in Lincoln, boxed lunches on both Saturday and Sunday and cold beverages throughout both days of touring. On the drive to each site, Drew will answer questions and point out additional historically-significant locations along the way.
At the welcome dinner on Friday, Drew will tell stories while everyone enjoys an authentic gourmet New Mexican dinner in the Wortley Hotel's beautiful dining room where Pat Garrett was once the proprietor. After dinner, have a glass of wine, iced tea, or a cup of coffee on the porch with Drew.
Saturday morning, after your chef-prepared breakfast at the Wortley, join Drew for an all-day tour of Lincoln County. You'll begin with a detailed walking tour of the historic buildings and sites in the town of Lincoln. The tour includes the Tunstall store, whose shelves are still stocked with Victorian merchandise, and the Courthouse from which Billy made his final daring escape. You'll then travel to the Tunstall murder site, where the Lincoln County War officially began, and then on to Blazer's Mill, the site of one of the most famous gunfights in Old West history and the burial place of a warrior from each side of the conflict.
After breakfast on Sunday, you'll travel with Drew to Stinking Springs, where Billy and several other notables were captured by Pat Garrett's posse. You'll then visit Fort Sumner, a town where Billy and his friends often went to parties and danced with sweethearts and where Billy was eventually killed in 1881. You will also visit his tombstone, famously chiseled with the word "Pals" and the names of two of his closest friends as well as his own.
During the entire weekend, Drew will be on hand to answer questions about any Western figures and tell their stories as only he can.
The event is limited to 10 guests to ensure that everyone has plenty of opportunity to speak with Drew and spend ample time exploring sites and taking photos.
The cost for the package is $975 per person. Availability of rooms at the Wortley is limited, and room selection will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact Drew by Facebook or email at drew@pvtnetworks.net for complete details or to make a reservation.
Join Drew to explore history and make some of your own with a weekend in the Old West.
